Newly-Formed Lenox Land Trust
Announces Public Meeting on February 29th, 2004
[Lenox, MA] In the footsteps of successful initiatives in Stockbridge, Williamstown, and other local towns in Berkshire County, a group of citizens in Lenox have created the Lenox Land Trust, a non-profit corporation focused on the preservation of open space within the Town of Lenox. There will be a meeting open to anyone interested in becoming a member of the Lenox Land Trust and who would like to learn more about conservation, preservation of open spaces, and options for land planning in Lenox at the Lenox Community Center on Sunday, February 29th from 3pm to 5pm.
Recognizing the pressures on land use and also recognizing the rights of individual property owners, the Lenox Land Trust believes that it is imperative to preserve and maintain the rural New England character of Lenox and the surrounding area for present and future generations. The Lenox Land Trust anticipates working with the Town of Lenox, Berkshire Natural Resources, The Massachusetts Audobon Society and other organizations to achieve these goals.
The Members of the Board are:
Kevin Sprague, President
Kate McNulty-Vaughan, Vice-President
Gene Chague, Treasurer
Lois Lenehan, Clerk
Sally BellGige Darey
Warren Archey
Dick Celli
Patty Spector
Charlie Liston
The board of the organization has been focused on creating a legal non-profit entity, the creation of bylaws, and other organizational start-up issues. The selection and creation of open space maps has also been initiated. A web site at www.lenoxlandtrust.org is live.
